I love the "Back to the Future" movies, so I was tickled when Telltale Games released an eponymous PC game late last year. (An iPad version followed shortly.)
This five-episode adventure normally sells for $24.99. But from now until 7 p.m. ET, you can get Back to the Future: The Game (Windows/Mac) via Steam for just $10. Great Scott!
This unofficial sequel takes place six months after the events of the third movie. Christopher Lloyd returns to voice Doc Brown, and a fairly decent voice actor fills in for Michael J. Fox--until episode five, when Fox himself takes on voice duty!
If you're old enough to remember the old Sierra adventures like Space Quest, you'll feel right at home with the kind of graphic-adventure puzzle solving at play here. (Thankfully, the graphics themselves are vastly superior, though not what I would call state-of-the-art.)
In true Cheapskate fashion, I couldn't bring myself to plunk down $25 for the full game (though I did grab the first episode back when Telltale ran a freebie promotion). And I'm glad I waited, because 10 bucks is exactly what I'm comfortable paying for this.
The game is compatible with Windows and Mac systems. You'll need a Steam account to buy, download, and install it. (I don't consider that a downside; I like Steam.)
This is some great throwback fun for fans of adventure games and Michael J. Fox movies. I'm looking forward to playing it with my kids.
Bonus deal: In the market for the perfect media-center PC? B&H Photo has the Acer Revo RL100 media center for $379 shipped. This superslim desktop tucks neatly into any entertainment center (or even under a small TV). Even better, pair it with the Hauppauge WinTV-DCR-2650 USB CableCARD tuner, which is on sale for $129.99 (down from $149). I've tested the latter; it rocks.
