Quick housekeeping note: The deals I share are in stock and available at the time I post them. Unfortunately, the especially awesome ones tend to sell out quickly, sometimes very soon after my post goes live.

Many a frustrated reader will call the company (or one of its stores, if applicable) in hopes of getting that price, only to be told there's "no such deal and there never was," or, "We don't know where CNET got that information."

Most of the deals I find are available exclusively online, though there are exceptions (like the $60 TV from Target I posted the other day). Even so, it's not uncommon for phone reps to be unaware of these online deals, and for brick-and-mortar stores to have different prices than their Web counterparts.

Except where noted, CNET has no direct relationship with any vendor. In other words, when I write about a deal from, say, Best Buy or Secondipity, I'm merely reporting information I've discovered -- information that was accurate when I reported it. Just because there's a disconnect between this posted deal and what you're told by a company rep doesn't mean there's dirty work afoot.

OK, that wasn't such a quick note after all. If you want to learn more about how this blog works, please be sure to read the Cheapskate FAQ.

On to business. While supplies last, Wal-Mart has the Canon Pixma MG2120 multifunction printer and Wintec 4GB flash drive for $29.98, plus sales tax and shipping.

The latter adds around $6, unless you bump your cart total to $45, in which case it's free. School supplies, anyone?

Speaking of which, this back-to-school bundle gives students four critical items: a printer, a scanner, a copier, and a flash drive. This last comes in your choice of colors: green, blue, or purple. You must select one in order to add the bundle to your cart.

As noted on the product page, "Items in this bundle may be sold separately in stores." In other words, this is probably an online-only deal. You could try hitting your local Wal-Mart store to see if they'll give you this same bundle, but I doubt it.

The MG2120 is, unsurprisingly, a fairly no-frills MFP, offering a flatbed scanner (i.e. one page at a time) and USB connectivity. Of course, most students probably don't need a wireless printer, especially those living in dorm rooms.

Yeah, yeah, I know, this whole package costs less than an ink-cartridge replacement pack. But ink is crazy expensive regardless of the printer you buy, so why not get the cheapest deal you can on the printer itself?

For a mere 30 bucks, this MFP/flash-drive bundle is darn near impossible to beat.

Bonus deal: Looking for an MFP that's a little more robust, like for a home office? Today only, GearXS has the Canon Pixma MX432 wireless multifunction printer for $59.99, plus around $10 for shipping. It's new, not refurbished, and it can print, scan, copy, and fax. It has a 30-sheet ADF and supports Apple's AirPrint technology.
