Excite@home and Comcast As of this morning our Comcast cable modem is still working. We have our fingers crossed that there will ultimately be no disruption of service due to the Excite@Home matter (see previous coverage).

This web page has updated info from Comcast (thanks, Bob Grip). It states: "Comcast is currently working with Excite@Home to insure that your service remains uninterrupted." It also acknowledges: "Comcast’s Connection Backup Program is meant to be a temporary alternative to provide email and connectivity. The free service offers ten hours per month, which should be sufficient to get you through any short-term outages. This service does not currently support Mac, Windows 2000 or XP."

Update: A foxnews.com article states: "Bankruptcy Judge Thomas Carlson said Excite@Home could reject its existing contracts with the cable companies as early as 3 a.m. EST Saturday (at which point it could turn off its high-speed Internet cable service). The cable companies that connect their customers to the high-speed network said they plan to appeal the decision."

Qwest confusion Regarding previous coverage: This web page states: "On January 21, 2001 any Qwest Internet Service users who have not registered with us will be unable to continue accessing the Internet via Qwest Internet Access service." But this page says: "Qwest.net Internet Access is only available to Macintosh and Qwest DSL Pro users. If you are a PC user and you need Internet access, please see our MSN Internet Access offer." Maybe the latter statement needs to be updated. Some readers informs us that Qwest has told them that ISP service will be maintained for Mac users. At this point, it may be easier to just wait and see what happens...instead of trying to figure it all out.
