Bootable expansion bay CD-RW drives

Regarding yesterday's report that you cannot boot a PowerBook from the VST CDRWG32, a reader alerted us to this claim: "The MCE Xcarét Pro and Xcarét Pro 2000 Media Bay CDRW's are the only expansion bay CDRW's on the market that are capable of booting your PowerBook!" Ben Perez (of MCE) adds: "Using either a Mac OS 8.6 or Mac OS 9 CD or a copy of your PowerBook internal drive's System, one can boot and run a PowerBook G3 Series 98 or a PowerBook G3 Series 99/2000." Reader Robert Snell confirms that it works. Additionally, the MCE Xcarét Media Bay drive "can boot your PowerBook."
