Apple update squishes Apple TV graphics bug

Apple has released a software update for second-generation Apple TVs that addresses a screen-flickering problem a number of people have been having.

Following the recent OS X 10.6.7 update that in part specifically addressed a graphics bugs being experienced by new 2011 MacBook Pro owners, Apple has also released an Apple TV update that addresses the graphics flickering experienced after the recent 4.2 software update for that system. We outlined the initial bug in a previous article.

The latest update, version 4.2.1, is issued with the following features:

  1. TV compatibility: addresses issues that may cause the screen to flicker or display incorrect color on some older TVs.
  2. Wake from sleep: addresses a problem in which the Apple TV may not wake up from sleep.
  3. Audio: addresses an issue in which audio may not be heard on some TV models after switching from another input.
  4. Stability and performance: Apple TV Software Update 4.2.1 includes stability and performance fixes for Apple TV.

We recommend that everyone being affected by the Apple TV flickering bug update to this latest version. This update comes only a couple of weeks after the initial 4.2 update that introduced the graphics bug.
