The ultimate space saver, not only does the Haier HLC1700AXW fit under your counter, but it combines a washing machine with a dryer, so you only have to find enough space for one appliance to get your clothes clean. And since the dryer is ventless, you have that much more flexibility in finding a spot for this petite 20-cubic-foot machine.
Designed as part of Haier's small-space living appliance lineup, the HLC17000AXW is on display at CES 2016 and available for sale now with an MSRP of $1,050. No word on specific international pricing for now, but the US price converts to £718 and AU$1,498 for our readers in the UK and Australia, respectively.
At least in terms of specs, it looks perfect for apartment dwellers, and I'll attest that when I saw it on the CES show floor, the sleek silver finish makes it look like a premium appliance. It's also available in white. We won't know how well it actually cleans and dries until we get it back to our Appliances lab for a full review in our temp and humidity controlled chambers.
Washer dryer combos have been on the market before, but they're becoming a trend here in Vegas. LG's new Twin Wash machine doubles as a dryer. And the Marathon washer/dryer combo is the first to combine a washer with a normal vented dryer, according to the company. A Marathon rep claimed the vent would help it work better, and not trap as much moisture.
Again, we'll be happy to put all of this to the test in our Appliances lab shortly, but whether or not it affects drying, the ventless system makes sense to me on the Haier HLC17000AXW. It's a washer and a dryer that also has a small space profile -- and not having a vent seems to fit with that appealing combo. If it manages to still perform as a washer and a dryer effectively, the Haier HLC17000AXW could be quite the convenient appliance for apartment dwellers.
