Workaround for Mac OS X 10.3.x empty network folders
We previously reported a problem with Mac OS X 10.3.x's Network Browser where the full path of a server, including the machine's name, must be less than 56 characters. Otherwise, the Finder shows empty folders.
Jeremy X. Halpern notes that you can work around this issue by using the "Connect to Server" option (located under the "Go" menu in the Finder, or accessible via the command-K keyboard combination):
"We got around it using the 'Connect to Server' window. From there the same volume that appeared empty in the Network browser was suddenly populated with data. Go figure."
