Word 98 Save problem: new work-arounds suggested

CNET staff
Regarding the problem of not being able to Save a Word 98 document (as reported last time), several readers offered additional work-arounds:

John Crytron writes: "I usually encounter this problem if I have several applications running. In those cases, I just quit one or more applications and then I am able to save the Word document."

Reader Woody writes: "I solved the problem by significantly reducing the number of fonts I had in what was a severely bloated Font folder."

Sam Allen suggests: "Reduce the frequency of the "Save Autorecover info" in the Preferences menu (assuming you use it at all). While your initial inclination is to increase the frequency of backups if you are having data loss problems, reducing the frequency apparently minimizes the out of memory error messages. I use a setting of 10 minutes or greater."
