Wake-from-Sleep issues: More confirmation for disconnecting all peripherals before sleep

CNET staff

We recently published a special report on dealing with a broad range of wake-from-sleep issues associated with incremental Mac OS X updates or other triggers.

One workaround covered in the report was the disconnection/removal of all external devices must be disconnected before putting the machine to sleep.

We continue to receive reports from readers having success with this procedure.

MacFixIt reader Dave writes:

"I've had wake from sleep issues with my 17" 1.33 GHz Powerbook, and I couldn't solve the problem, despite the helpful advice from your readers. My symptoms are pretty typical - after closing the lid, I see the front light come on and off, but when I open the lid, the computer seems 'awake,' but I get a black screen that cannot wake unless I reboot.

"I've solved the problem! I have a Firewire 400 expansion card plugged into my PCMIA slot (it gives me 3 ports). Its a card made by PC CE (?), and when it is unplugged before going to sleep, the machine does wake from sleep. If it is left plugged in when I close the lid, I can't wake from sleep. I'm so glad I finally solved this problem!"
