Troubleshooting the PowerBook G4 15" (FireWire 800): Excessive fan noise?

We've previously covered issues with "white spots" and bad RAM with the PowerBook G4 15". Reader "Aval" reports an issue with fan noise:

"I have had the new PowerBook with 1.25GHz and 80Meg HDD and SuperDrive. The fan on the left side is intermittently very noisy. Apple recommended the local Service Centre to change the blower..no luck. They changed the whole blower and housing on the same side...still the same noise. They are not 'looking into it further' - anyone else had this same problem?"

Although the fans on all of the new "Aluminum" PowerBooks can be loud at times, the fact that Apple actually recommended replacing the fan in Aval's unit seems to indicate excessive noise. We haven't yet received any other reports of such problems, however.
