Troubleshooting the Power Mac G5: Cold start issue

Yesterday we covered reports from a user and an Authorized Service provider that replacing the video card on affected Power Mac G5 computers fixes the "blank screen on cold boot" issue. We have since received additional confirmations of this fix. An Apple Certified Technician wrote in to say:

"I can confirm the issue. We've sold dozens of DP 2GHz so far, and we've had two units with the startup problems reported on MacFixit. It works fine on a reboot. We changed the video card in both units and solved the issue."
