Repair Privileges not working Sporadic reports indicate that in rare cases, the QuickTime 6.1 updater can cease functioning of the Repair Privileges utility. Christopher Long writes:

"After Updating 3 machines PowerBook G3, G4 Cube and a G4 (dual processor; all running 10.2.3) with the new version of QuickTime 6.1. I'm unable to run Repair Privileges 1.1 on all machines."

The application, in most reader-reported cases, occurs when launching Repair Privileges. It should be noted that the functions of Repair Privileges are also contained in Apple's Disk Utility in Mac OS X 10.2.x. Of course, Apple recommends repairing permissions with Disk Utility in Mac OS X versions later than 10.1.5, but some users have opted to keep using the Repair Privileges app and have been unable to do so since updating to QuickTIme 6.1.

MacVCD 4.1.4 fixes menu issue If you install QuickTime 6.1 you will find that menus no longer drop down (the menu item in the menu bar highlights but the menus don't appear) in MacVCD X.

Robert Wiebe writes to let us know that his firm has released a new version of MacVCD X, 4.1.4, which fixes the problem.

MacVCD is a QuickTime and VCD movie player that support full screen movie playback with a menu bar still visible.

Port setting Make sure that your port setting is correct in the "Transport Setup" section of QuickTime's System Preferences pane. Otherwise, you may not be able to view streaming media. Darryl Adams writes:

'Streaming was not working correctly in QuickTime 6.1. I found that when QuickTime configured my transport, it set the configuration improperly. I opened System Preferences to the QuickTime button and clicked the connection tab. I then set the transport to HTTP and Port 80. Everything works correctly now."

Of course, Darryl's settings do not apply to everyone. Try clicking "Auto Configure" to have QuickTime automatically sense the port setting.

Problems with EyeTV MacFixIt reader KD, along with a handful of other readers, is experiencing problems with El Gato's EyeTV after updating to QuickTime 6.1:

"I am running EyeTV 1.1 and after updating to QuickTime 6.1 Eye TV is not able to display in full screen mode. Audio is coming through but I get a black screen in full screen mode. Then all video controls are disabled except for pause and quit."
