Microsoft's suggestions for "unexpected quits" In addition to our previously options for working around the "unexpected quit" messages popping up after applying the Office v.X 10.1.4 updater (part 1, part 2), Microsoft has now chimed in with its suggestions for resolving the issue. Their first suggested solution:

  1. Close Word.
  2. Open the Office X folder. There should be a folder named "Templates".
  3. Open Templates folder.
  4. Drag the document "Normal" to your desktop.
  5. Navigate to this folder: Microsoft Office X Office Startup Word, drag all of the files in it (if there are files in it) to the desktop.
  6. Start Word and check.

Second solution: If the problem persists, Please trash the following files/folders:

  • (OS x startup disk)/users/(user name)/Library/Preferences/com.microsoft.Word.plist
  • (OS x startup disk)/users/(user name)/Library/Preferences/Microsoft folder

TypeIt4Me compatibility MacFixIt reader David Toub reports "after updating Office X to 10.1.4, I notice that TypeIt4Me no longer works with PowerPoint. Expansion of text does not happen, whereas it still works in Word."

TypeIt4Me is an automated text macro tool that keeps pre-defined text stored for retrieval via a keyboard shortcut or menu-access.

We are following up with the author of this shareware utility, and hope to have some additional information about a fix or workaround soon.
