Troubleshooting Mac OS X Server: 5 users instead of 10

CNET staff

Mac OS X 10.2 Server, priced at US $499, provides a 10 user license by default.

However, if you use AFP (Apple File Protocol) automounts as well as normal file sharing, Mac OS X server counts each of your users twice. You can only effectively have 5 users on a 10 user license. This is the normal recommended setting if you wish to place users' home directories on the server and also allow them access to a group share-point as described in the Mac OS X server manual.

For reference, there is a shareware utility called "AFP Automount" will automatically mount selected AFP servers when you invoke it. You can also use it to mount servers on startup, if you have it setup as a startup item. It will also unlock your keychain, if necessary.
