Trial version of Microsoft Office v.X expiring licensed copies?

CNET staff

Apparently the trial version of Microsoft Office v.X is hampering fully licensed copies of the software from running after two weeks from installation. Microsoft includes a Remove Trial Version application that is intended to delete all associated files, but it seems that the uninstaller does not remove the timing mechanism that latches onto future installations of Office v.X.

One MacFixIt reader writes:

"I've deleted the trial version using the Remove Trial Version application utility. I then Emptied the Trash Can and re-booted the machine. I installed an Academic Licensed Full version of Microsoft Office v.X and have been using it for 2 weeks. Today, when I tried to open my Word application, it gave me an error message saying the software trial period had expired and I was to install a full version. In effect, my version had disappeared and the trial version reappeared."

If you have any insight on this issue, possibly pertaining to what file is causing the timing mechanism to re-trigger, please let us know at late-breakers@macfixit.com.
