The taste of dinosaurs

The Dinosaur Cakelette Pan provides an easy way to send T-Rex to school with your kids--or snack on a dinosaur yourself.

The Dinosaur Cakelette Pan Nordic Ware

While heart-shaped cupcakes only really work around Valentine's Day, you can get away with a dinosaur-shaped cake any time of year. The Dinosaur Cakelette Pan makes bringing out a plateful of tasty Tyrannosaurus Rexes and other assorted dinosaurs just a matter of pouring cake batter into the pan. This particular cake pan comes from Nordic Ware; it's a solid pan that can produce eight cakelettes at a time.

The Dinosaur Cakelette Pan has very detailed forms: there are two shapes for each of the four dinosaurs (stegosaurus, tyrannosaurus rex, triceratops, and apatosaurus) that even have teeth and claws. How well each detail will come through depends on the particular cake batter, of course, but the resulting mini-cakes look just as good with frosting as without. The idea of adding some green food coloring to your cake batter may make for an even more reptilian dessert. The whole pan is shaped like a dinosaur footprint, measuring 13 3/4 inches by 11 1/2 inches. It's 1 1/4 inches deep. If you're keeping any eye on calories, these cakelettes are similar in size to the standard cupcake, and they may not make bad molds for Jell-O jigglers or any other tasty treat that comes to mind. The Dinosaur Cakelette Pan is priced at $32.
