The first batch of Samsung Series 5 Chromebooks will roll out in July and August. They're currently available to pre-order from Amazon.

The Samsung Series 5 3G Chromebook will retail for £400 when it's released on 1 August, according to Amazon's site. Its Wi-Fi-only cousin will cost £350, and start shipping on 1 July. Only the white versions of the Chromebooks are listed.

Three has already announced it's Google's official UK network partner. Amazon confirms this on the Series 5 3G page: "This model includes integrated 3G mobile-broadband connectivity, including a Three SIM card, as well as ultra-fast wireless-N networking for connecting to home or office LANs."

We presume you could extract the SIM and use the Chromebook on another network.

The Series 5 features a 12.1-inch display, 1.66GHz dual-core Intel Atom processor, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage -- most storage will take place in the cloud. The machine also has two USB ports and an SD card slot.

There's no mention on Amazon of the Acer Cromia which, based on US prices, will be slightly cheaper than the Samsung models. Hopefully, we'll hear more on that front soon.

In the meantime, check out our first impressions of the Chrome OS software that powers Chromebooks.
