Retrospect Express does not support Club Mac drive

Retrospect Express does not support Club Mac drive

CNET staff

Although the exact same drive mechanism (CD-W512EB) is used in both models, Retrospect Express is for some reason able to properly recognize and perform backups using the EZQuest Boa 12x10x32 CD-RW drive, but not the Club Mac 12x10x32 CD-RW drive.

A note from the company's support page reads:

"The only supported Firewire version of this drive is the EZQuest Boa 12x10x32 (CD-W512EB version). The Club Mac (CD-W512EB version) is not currently supported. Please see the Hardware Search Engine for currently qualified devices.

"Dantz goes through a rigorous qualification process with every drive we test. This means that not every drive will be qualified and we can never guarantee that a particular device will be supported. Some drives do not get qualified ever, and some take 6 months to a year to get support. We have no way of telling if this drive will be supported or not at this moment."

The CD-W512EB is manufactured by TEAC and resold by a number of OEMs including Club Mac and EZQuest.
