Radialogic FireWire drivers: a follow-up

CNET staff
Regarding yesterday's item on possible problems with Radialogic drivers, Radialogic's Michael Simmons replies: The reason that we split up FireWire drivers into multiple extensions is this exact reason. You cannot have two different brands of drivers controlling the same device. So, in the case of Adaptec's Toast FireWire driver, you would have to disable Radialogic's FireWire CD driver. We added this flexibility to allow for the solution of this problem, should you want to use another companies' drivers. Unfortunately, Adaptec Toast only support their drivers, so disabling ours is the only solution regardless. Concerning the Retrospect problem with our drivers: Retrospect uses a SCSI Interface Module (SIM) to talk to FireWire and USB devices. Currently, their SIM is designed to work with Adaptec and CharisMac FireWire CD-R devices that ship with Retrospect bundled with a CD Recorder. To the best of my knowledge, Retrospect is not bundled with any FireWire hard drive, so I cannot confirm compatibility with FireWire hard disks. If the driver he received with his hard drive was the Radialogic Storage Master package and he has no other drivers, then please assure him that we are working with Dantz to correct this issue in the near future.
