Quicken 2002: follow-up on opening data files from aliases

CNET staff
In an addition to yesterday's coverage on this topic, Harvey Rubinstein reports that he has found a solution:

"Apparently when Quicken updates the old data files to the new 2002 version, an error is introduced that causes the alias problem I encountered. The solution (which originated from Allan Lau) is to rename the newly updated files and then create a new alias. Upon restart, the new aliases will work as normal. At this point, the newly renamed data files and their aliases may be changed back to their original names."

Update: Thomas Thatcher notes that this problem happens to him only when running Mac OS 9.x. When running from Mac OS X, the problem does not occur. In these setups, we suspect that Quicken is incorrectly trying to launch the Mac OS X version of Quicken from Mac OS 9. We have seen similar problems with other software. Rebuilding the desktop usually, but does not always, solve this.
