Problems installing ATI Radeon X1900 XT firmware update; Solves visual distortion, Boot Camp issues

Some users are reporting problems installing Apple's ATI Radeon X1900 XT firmware update for Mac Pros, released yesterday.
MacFixIt reader Clark Price writes:
If you are experiencing a similar issue, please let us know. What it fixes Apple included no specific information regarding the enhancements in this firmware update. However, readers are now reporting that it may resolve the following problems:"I have a Mac Pro 2.66 with the ATI board. First of all, Software Update did not show that I needed the update. Then, when I manually downloaded it and attempted to install it, I got the following error message: "Necessary resources are missing, corrupt, or do not have the correct permissions. Delete the ATI Radeon X1900 XT Graphics Card Update and re-download it and run it again."
"Checked my permissions -- no problem. So I really don't know what the problem is. For what it's worth, I have Boot Camp on my Mac, but my Windows installation is on a completely different disc from my Mac OS 10.4.10 installation."
- Problems installing Boot Camp 1.3 and later -- installation fails when installing the graphics driver.
- Visual abberations like a single bright red or pink pixel on dark grey or black areas of the screen
