Patch for iBook (Dual USB) sound problem

In short, after around 30 seconds of silence, any small audio sample played will be lost and longer samples will be delayed. This causes a lot of notification sounds to be dropped. Apple confirmed that this is a known problem and a solution is in the works. In the meantime, we at Intelligent Devices Software have created a free iBook 2001 Audio Patch 1.0 patch that resolves the issue."

From the Read Me: The iBook 2001 seems to turn off some audio component after 30 seconds of silence and will cut off short audio samples (and delay longer ones) when audio is played after a long silence. This patch will play a low data rate buffer of audio silence every 15 seconds to prevent the audio hardware from turning off. This seems to resolve the problem. The patch will use up some CPU cycles (and will probably shorten battery life a little) in trade for the audio playback fix until Apple releases an official patch.

Darren Montjar writes: "I took a Mac OS 9.2 CD from a QuickSilver G4 and installed 9.2 on my iBook. It’s a universal CD installer. I haven't had a sound problem since. Maybe 9.2 includes the fix?" Update: Carsten Friehe confirms that OS 9.2 does fix the problem.
