Palm Desktop Software 2.6.1 and Keyspan adapters: a bad mix?; Other pluses and minuses

Palm and Keyspan Some readers are having problems using the recently released Palm Desktop Software 2.6.1 update (see item last time) with Keyspan adapters. Others have had success: Craig Asato writes: "I just installed the new Palm Hotsync v2.6.1 Updater and now my Palm V will not see the serial port. I am using the Keyspan USB-PDA adapter not the adapter from Palm. The new updater seems to not recognize the Keyspan adapter. I wasn't having any HotSyncing problems with the Keyspan USB driver and the older version of HotSync." Mike Cohen writes: "If you're using a Keyspan Serial Adapter instead of a PalmConnect USB kit, you're probably better off not getting the 2.6.1 update. When I installed the update, it switched the local HotSync port from the Keyspan to PalmConnect USB (which I don't have). After I switched it back, I found that it now takes almost twice as long to sync." Ronald Guest adds: "I installed 2.6.1 on my B&W G3 which has a Keyspan USB PDA adapter. Doing so changed the setting from the Keyspan adapter to Palm USB Connect. I changed this manually and noted I could not sync successfully. I then did a reboot and it sync'd just fine and at full speed. I have a Palm V." Michael Simmons replies: "I have a Keyspan Twin Serial Adapter and it works fine with my 2.6.1 Palm Upgrade. I did, however, install the complete 2.6.1 software and not just the updater." Plus side On the plus side, Michael Crawford writes in general about the 2.6.1 update: "The recent updates from Palm (either the complete Palm Desktop 2.6 installer or just the conduit update to work with Desktop 2.5) both solve the recent problems when attempting to hotsync with long time out applications. I can now successfully hotsync FileMaker Pro 5.0 through the FMSync Pro conduit to JFile Pro as it opens files, performs finds, and sorts." Steven Mattson adds: "The update appears to have corrected the problem with having to disconnect and reconnect the USB connector to achieve a connection." Minus side On the minus side, Douglas Wyman still has the problem where a FireWire PowerBook will not wake from sleep if HotSync is enabled.
