OS X update install over unofficial and developer versions

CNET staff
We have always strongly recommend against installing the pirate updates that sometimes circulate around the Web prior to an official release. In this case, users who had installed a pirate version of the Mac OS X 10.0.1 Update have found that they now cannot update to the release version. Although we generally avoid anything related to pirated software, we do have a fix for those users who now want to update to the release version: the file "10.0.1Update.pkg" in the /library/receipts directory needs to be manually moved into the trash before running the update. Important: Do not delete these files from the Trash before running the Update; just drag them to the Trash!

Update: A developer sent us this note: "Developers also may need to do this. I was using 4L7 that we got from Apple and had to remove the receipt in the same manner."
