Possible fix for some HP printing problems We've previously noted a number of issues with some HP printers, including inability to print due to lack of device recognition and omitted pages on successful print jobs.

MacFixIt reader David Schwartzstein notes an HP-specified workaround that involves making sure HP printers (and possibly models from other manufacturers) are connected to "Port 0" USB port:

"I was on the phone with HP?s business inkjet tech support today [...] The technician suggested making sure the Officejet was connected directly to the USB port on the computer designated by the system as 'USB Port 0' -- to tell which port is Port 0, he said to simply look at the Apple System Profiler and the USB bus listed highest was port 0. He also noted that connection through a hub would not be ideal for these printers either. I?m assuming this could be applied to any printer using the HP Communications daemon program."

Canvas 9 crash fix Like a number of other applications, ACD Systems' Canvas may exhibit problems if it is not located in the default /Applications folder.

MacFixIt reader Gabriel Dorado writes: "I have found that under certain circumstances (see below), Canvas 9.04 (Build 820) unexpectedly quits when you launch it on Mac OS X 10.3.5 on different Macs like PowerMac G4/500 (AGP) or PowerBook G4/400 Titanium.

"The crash hits right after the splash screen, before the Canvas worksheet is displayed.

"To fix, just place the 'Canvas 9' folder in the "/Applications" folder. Open Canvas again. It should not crash now. Previously I had the 'Canvas 9' folder inside a folder named '/Applications/03-Design-Drawing-Imaging'
