Ejecting stubborn CDs Christian Bassir sent in a tip for removing CDs that will not respond to the "eject" menu command, or dragging to the trash:

"The shell command: "/usr/sbin/disktool -o" opens vacant drive doors. As an AppleScript:

tell application "Finder"
try
do shell script "/usr/sbin/disktool -o "
on error
display dialog "Unable to eject the disk" buttons
("Ok") default button 1
end try
end tell

DVD Player Installation John Wolf offers a workaround for yesterday's Apple DVD Player installation dilemna, which requires getting the latest release (version 3.1.1) to install on machines without a hardware DVD device.

"Inside of the DVDPlayerUpdate.pkg, there is a file called 'InstallationCheck' that needs to be deleted in order for the update to install on DVD-less systems. The easiest way I have found is to log into OS X as root and control-click on the DVDPlayerUpdate.pkg file and select 'Show Package contents.' Navigate into Contents folder and then the Resources folder. Delete the InstallationCheck file and close the package. It should now install."
