CD/DVD tray eject problem solved? Andrew Kim reports that if the CD/DVD tray ejects during boot, it is caused by how some USB devices send an eject command to the system. Disabling certain USB devices will fix the problem. Suspect devices include the iMate USB-ADB, Keyspan Twin serial, and some I/O devices." [See also previous coverage of this issue.]

CarbonLib 1.3.1 incompatible with Object Master Bill Myers reports that Object Master locks up his 9600 on startup with CarbonLib 1.3.1. Reverting to CarbonLib 1.2.5 restores Object Master's ability to function.

AliasMenu conflict with Carbon Applications Christophe Vuattier writes: "When running a Carbonized version of GraphicConverter or Acrobat Reader, closing an open file window or quitting the application triggers garbage characters in this main menu, followed by a fatal 'Finder Unexpectedly Quit' message when clicking into the Menu bar. I suspect the problem will occur in any Carbon application, and the problem happens with CarbonLib versions 1.2 through 1.3.1. Disabling AliasMenu appears to be the only solution."

Update: Evidently the conflict is actually with Magic Menu 5.5, which is part of StuffIt Deluxe. Removing either AliasMenu or Magic Menu will restore the ability to run Carbon applications.

Update: Mark Bernstein reports that this fix did not work for him. Now even Richard claims that the advice was in error. However, other users report it did work. YMMV.

Radialogic software disables iBook functionality David Hajime Kornhauser writes: "I have found that the Radialogic ATA/SCSI Driver extension installed with my Ratoc FireWire-SCSI converter interferes with CD burning and it disables the CD/DVD tray eject key on my new 2001 combo drive iBook (Dual USB)."

Update: David Kornhauser has now found a fix: use the native drivers installed by the Mac OS. He writes: "I tried connecting my SCSI MO drive via the Ratoc FireWire-SCSI converter without the recommended Radialogic drivers, and it worked! The generic removable media icons have changed, and the Radialogic formatting/diagnostic software draws a blank, but otherwise everything works perfectly in the Finder, custom icons and all!"
