Matthew Parsons informs us of some new features in Mac OS X 10.1, as stated on Apples' Service Source site:

Audio There are a< variety of audio enhancements such as change to the Audio Toolbox and support for additional standards, such as 5.1 channel stereo surround sound.

Display There is support for additional display types, and Mac OS X v10.1 provides better support for systems with multiple displays. Networking enhancements make it possible to connect to all significant server platforms, such as AFP, SMB/SAMBA, WebDAV, NFS file services running on Mac OS X servers, AppleShare, UNIX, Linux, Windows NT, and Windows 2000 servers.

File servers Connection to network files servers is more secure through support for Windows user authentication modules (UAM).

Two other notable new features:

Login window The Login window now shows all users with accounts on the computer (including root). However, you can revert to the original login window via a selection in the Login System Preference.

Custom installation The installation for 10.1 allows you to omit installation of localized files for other languages.
