Speculation on Apple's announcements tomorrow The New York Times takes some educated guesses regarding Apple's special event tomorrow, predicting a new method to connect the personal computer to the television. "[...] Apple may use wireless technologies like Wi-Fi and ultra-wideband to stream digital content from a Macintosh to the TV. Such a system would allow the video to be played on television screens with the computer's hand-held Apple remote control. Such an approach would almost certainly appeal to Jobs' spartan aesthetic. And it tracks well with one of Apple's peripheral products, AirPort Express, which makes it possible to stream digital audio wirelessly to speakers in different rooms of a home." More.

Running Vista on a MacBook Pro Macworld UK reports on the experience of installing Windows Vista RC1 on a MacBook Pro. "Getting Vista RC1 up and running was relatively painless. After installing Boot Camp and creating a 20GB partition on my MacBook Pro's hard drive, I slipped in the Vista installation disk and pretty much let it install as I had on my Vaio. After that was done, I ejected the Vista disk and inserted the disk containing Mac drivers. Here's where I ran into some problems: The drivers failed to install. I'm not surprised, given that Apple provides drivers only for Windows XP Service Pack 2, but I figured I'd try anyway." More.

Unboxing the 24-inch iMac engadget has  the first unboxing shots of Apple's new 24-inch iMac. "It's not the most comprehensive unboxing set we've seen, nor the most tidy (check out that cable mess!), but the fact that it's the first means that the guy behind the camera automatically gets our Engadget-branded kudos." IBC: Apple updates Final Cut Pro digit reports that Apple has used the IBC trade show in Amsterdam to announce Final Cut Pro 5.1.2, an update to the Mac maker's video editing software that adds support for Motion's FxPlug plug-ins and more capture formats. "The update enables Motion's real-time plug-ins -- including those bundled with the application - to be used within Final Cut Pro. Final Cut Pro 5.1.2 enhances support for Sony's XDCAM, Panasonic's P2 and HDV. Previous releases of Final Cut Pro supported the 25Mbps CBR version of XDCAM, but 5.1.2 adds support for 18Mbps and 35Mbps video -- plus XDCAM IMX 30. Apple has also boosted integration between Final Cut Pro and the freely-downloadable XDCAM Transfer import and asset control tool." More.
