Intel Core Duo chip pushed to 3GHz PC Pro reports that an Intel Core Duo T2600 chip, nominally running at 2.16GHz, has been overclocked to a speed of more than 3.8GHz. "The chip is used by Apple in the MacBook Pro laptops, though running at that speed it would soon lead to meltdown. It does raise the possibility, however, that when the first Intel-powered successor to the Power Mac G5 is introduced - which can support the cooling systems required to achieve this level of performance - we may see speeds in the region of 3GHz." Now, Apple is working on other projects built on the same end-to-end model as the iPod: a media-playing cellphone and a home-media hub." More.
