Lightyear trailer launches Pixar's Toy Story spinoff
The movie will take us to infinity and beyond in June, with Chris Evans in the starring role.
Toy Story spinoff Lightyear got its first trailer on Wednesday, giving us our first look at the upcoming Pixar movie. It's scheduled to hit theaters on June 17, 2022.
This movie isn't about the action figure version of Buzz Lightyear we've gotten to know in the four Toy Story movies. Instead, it's an origin story for the character who inspired the toy -- a brave test pilot who becomes an awesome Space Ranger.
He's voiced by Chris Evans (replacing Toy Story actor Tim Allen), who seems like an appropriate choice given the parallels between the origins of Buzz and Evans' Marvel character, Captain America.
"The phrase 'a dream come true' gets thrown around a lot, but I've never meant it more in my life," Evans said in a release. "Anyone who knows me knows that my love for animated films runs deep. I can't believe that I get to be a part of the Pixar family and work with these truly brilliant artists who tell stories unlike anyone else. Watching them work is nothing short of magic. I pinch myself every day."
We don't hear much of Evans' performance in the trailer, but he utters one word of Buzz's catchphrase: "To infinity and beyond." Excellent use of David Bowie's Starman, too.
