iTunes store outages, again

Error 11333

CNET staff

Last week we reported on an issue where, as the apparent result of an outage, thousands of users who purchased music from the iTunes store have been unable to download their purchases, repeatedly receiving a message indicating that the iTunes store is temporarily unavailable and to try back later. In these cases of failure, users' credit cards are charged and receipts are received, but the tracks never materialize as actual downloads. That issue was resolved by a fix on Apple's end.

Users are now experiencing similar issues, this time receiving an error message accompanying the failed transfers.

One reader writes:

"Since updating to 7.4.2 I'm getting a 'cannot connect to iTunes Store, unknown error 11333' message and can't access the store. I tried trashing the prefs and plugins to no avail. A posting from a "tier 2" tech at Apple said they are working on it."

We've received several other emails to the same effect.

In some cases, this may be a firewall issue. Look at your firewall settings, and see if you are blocking MIME types. If so, unblock the following:

  • application/x-pkcs7-crl

and re-attempt accessing the iTunes Store.

If you are experiencing a similar issue, please let us know.
