- Click on "Change account information"
- Fill out the form (effectively changing your AppleID to your email address)
- You may have to update your credit card security code.
- Go to iTunes and sign in with your new username (your email address)
Meanwhile, some users have experienced success requesting deletion of their iTunes shopping cart from Apple (via this support request page).
MacFixIt reader Bill Wagoner writes:
"I had the infamous 5002 error stare me in the face for DAYS! Finally an Apple rep suggested deleting my shopping cart (it had 114 entries) and that fixed the problem. They had to do it for me I was unable to gain access."
