iPhoto 5.0.4 (#2): Crashes not resolved in some cases
Editing crash not resolved in all cases Yesterday Apple released iPhoto 5.0.4, which purportedly fixed a bug documented extensively here on MacFixIt where iPhoto 5.0.3 consistently crashes when attempting to rotate an image. The crash could also occur when browsing images in Edit mode using the left and right navigation arrows.
Some MacFixIt readers are still experiencing the issue, however.
David Alexander writes:
"The iPhoto upgrade to 5.0.4 has not helped the crashing problem I have been experiencing with iPhoto 5.0.3. The main crashing problem has been during the saving operation after editing an image as a result of moving to the next image using the arrow buttons, pressing the Done button, or clicking on another image thumbnail on the top of the edit window. In some cases the edited image was saved and in other cases the edit was lost and had to be reapplied. iPhoto will generally crash after several good edits. I have five iPhoto libraries using iPhoto Buddy and the crashing occurs with all of them. The size of these libraries range from several hundred images to several thousand. IPhoto rarely crashed before 5.0.3. Another noticeable change with the upgrade to 5.0.3 is the doubling in the time it takes to save an image after editing. I have not notice any other slow down in other functions."
Return of the color-shifting bug Meanwhile, another reader reports on a return of the "color-shifting" bug previously documented, which can be easily resolved by re-building the iPhoto library (accomplished by holding down the Command and Option keys while iPhoto is launching.)
The reader writes:
"I updated to iPhoto 5.0.4 and immediately noticed that when I scrolled and stopped, all the pictures would 'lighten' up a bit. I thought that behavior ended with version 5.0.3 but it seemed to have come back. The funny part was, that this lightening only occurred on pictures added to the library prior to a June 11 import. If I edited an older picture (example: changed contrast by 1 point) then it would no longer go through that lightening process. I finally solved this problem by launching iPhoto while holding down the command option keys and opting to rebuild my library database. Everything seems to be OK now."
Film roll browsing back MacFixIt reader Ben Rosenthal reports that iPhoto 5.0.4 restores the ability to browse images by film roll.
Ben writes:
"I've heard many a complaint about not being able to view photos by film roll. The 5.0.4 update brings back this functionality, I imagine to the cheers of the masses."
