USB printer over AppleTalk This Apple Discussions Board thread discusses how to get an Epson USB/parallel (non-network) printer to work over a network. The main suggestion involves using a D-Link device. Also see the similar information in this macosxhints.com article. (Thanks, Charles Bouldin.)

Epson 900N Meanwhile, we were pleasantly surprised to find that the latest Epson driver update for OS X 10.1.2 allowed our network-capable Epson Color 900N to work with OS X via an Ethernet connection. An Epson AppleTalk option now appears in Print Center. We tried it and we found the Epson printer listed there! Our first test was to print a web page. Not a complete success. For some reason, only text, not graphics, was printed. Also on the downside: Missing are all of the multitude of options present in the OS 9 Print dialog box (e.g., different types of paper options, different levels of quality, access to the test functions, etc.). But at least we can print.

Update: We stand corrected. We were a bit too hasty in our judgment of Epson printing options. Most of them are in fact there, via the Copies & Pages popup menu. Check for Print Settings and Color Management.

We also found the Epson Printer Utility tucked away in /Library/Printers/EPSON/Utilities. The head cleaning and test functions were there!

Only trouble is we still have occasional problems getting a document to print correctly or at all. For example, we just tried to print an Entourage email message (with embedded graphics) and got a -30891 Error. We will continue to work on solving these print problems.

Still, kudos overall to Epson for doing an excellent job of supporting OS X here!

Update: Magyari Prince noted that he could use Epson 900N over a network even with the previous version of the driver (although the setup procedure was a bit more complicated).
