GroupWise Notify conflict with Mac OS 9 Keychain can cause a crash

Two readers (Tommy Birchett and Bryan Forrest) have reported the identical issue: a conflict between Novell GroupWise Notify and Apple's Keychain Access. In particular, if you have Keychain set up so that it automatically mounts password-protected servers at startup, it clashes with Notify's attempt to login to your email server. The result is the servers won't mount and a system crash is likely.
