The cast of "Rogue One" graces the cover of this week's Entertainment Weekly, which promises to deliver behind-the-scenes news of the upcoming "Star Wars" film. Plus, Darth Vader is back.
Hold on to your lightsabers. Star Wars fans will get a treat this Friday, when the new issue of Entertainment Weekly magazine appears, featuring more details on the latest tale set in a galaxy far, far away: "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story."
Entertainment Weekly posted a first look at its "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" magazine cover on Wednesday and detailed what fans can expect inside the issue.
As the first Star Wars spinoff movie, "Rogue One" takes place between Episode III ("Revenge of the Sith") and Episode IV ("A New Hope"), where resistance fighters work against all odds to intercept Death Star plans.
The new Entertainment Weekly issue promises juicy details from the long-anticipated Star Wars film, directed by Gareth Edwards. The magazine promises to deliver never-before-seen characters and reintroduce a few familiar ones, including none other than Darth Vader himself.
Also, we finally get more information about the main character, Jyn Erso (played by Felicity Jones), who is "an outlaw who has clashed with both the Rebellion and the Empire, and now has a chance to clear her ledger of past wrongs by leading a mission for the good guys," according to Entertainment Weekly. "It's also personal -- her father, played by Mads Mikkelsen, is a scientist whose knowledge is sought by both sides."
We also learn more about the supporting characters who rebel against the evil Empire, and the diverse cast of actors who play them, including Forest Whitaker, Diego Luna, Donnie Yen, Riz Ahmed, Jiang Wen and Alan Tudyk as a "performance-capture droid."
There's also more information about the weaponized vehicles used in the upcoming movie, including skinnier and taller AT-AT walkers, called AT-ACTs, that are used for hauling cargo. Plus there are new interceptors called TIE Strikers.
The magazine also interviewed the filmmakers about what the recent news of the reshoots will mean for the feel and tone of the final cut of the film.
"Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" is still scheduled to hit theaters on December 16 in the US and UK and December 15 in Australia.
