Over the years I've shared a variety of DVD rippers, but most of them were designed to copy your movies to other formats: iPod, Android phone, MPEG-4, and so on.
Digiarty Software's new WinX DVD Copy Pro was built for DVD backups. It can clone a disc, turn it into an ISO image file, or convert it to MPEG-2.
The program normally costs $35.95, but today only, you can get WinX DVD Copy Pro absolutely free.
The software comes courtesy of Giveaway of the Day, a great source for freebies like this one. There are no strings attached, except that you need to download and install the software today.
Why do you need this? Simple: a scratched DVD is a worthless DVD. So before your kids ruin those pricey Pixar movies you bought (I'm speaking from experience, here), grab some blank double-layer DVDs and make backup copies.
WinX DVD Copy Pro promises to handle all kinds of copy-protection obstacles, including Disney Fake, Sony ARccOS, and even scratched media. Isn't that breaking the law? Eh, I keep reading conflicting reports about that. All I know is, if I own a DVD, I should have the right to make a backup copy--as long as it's for my personal use.
Like other Digiarty products I've used (most notably the company's WinX DVD Ripper Platinum), WinX DVD Copy Pro works quickly and efficiently. It's a nice tool to have in your arsenal--assuming you're even using physical media any more.
Bonus deal: Want to add 802.11n Wi-Fi to your desktop or older laptop? Meritline has a tiny Edimax EW-7811Un 802.11b/g/n USB Wi-Fi adapter for $8.99 shipped. It ships from the U.S., not China, so it should arrive within a week. Amusingly, Meritline has a two-pack of these for $26.99. Math is apparently not its strong suit.
