The shockproof Silicon Power A30 has a cable that stays conveniently clipped. Silicon Power

Not every portable hard drive can accompany you to the beach. Or a construction site. Or a war zone. Fragile little wussies, most drives are.

If you need mobile storage that can take a beating, you should like today's deal: For a limited time, and while supplies last, Silicon Power (via Amazon) has the SP Rugged Armor A30 1TB portable hard drive for $69.99 shipped. That's after applying coupon code SPA30B15 at checkout. Regular price: $84.99. Cheapskate exclusive!

True to its name (and appearance), this is a shockproof drive with "drop protection [that] meets U.S. Military (MIL-STD-810G) standards." That's thanks to a silica gel (which I, infomercial-style, liken to a space-age polymer) that's employed inside and out. And the exterior features a hexagonal pattern designed to resist scratches.

Plus, look at the thing. Cool, right? It's all badass black, but with spiffy orange accents. Call it orange and the new black. Eh? Eh?

The drive has two other big points in its favor. First, it's a USB 3.0 model with a cable that clips around the edges so as not to go missing. (A rubber band is not an effective means of cable storage, but that's your only option with most portable drives.) Second, it's backed by a three-year warranty.

Silicon Power wisely doesn't stock the drive with bloatware you may not need or want, but the company's SP Widget is available for free download. It includes a mix of backup and security utilities, some good, some meh.

Nearly 350 Amazon customers rated the drive 4.2 stars out of 5.

A quick check elsewhere reveals that most other shockproof 1TB drives sell for at least $85. So does this one, normally, but here's your chance to get it for $70 out the door. You game?

Bonus deal: Only a few days left to order your copy of ""="">"The Cheapskate Rules: 21 Easy Money-Saving Tech Secrets" for the introductory price of $4.99! After that, it goes back up to $8.99. The reviews are in (and very gratifying): five stars!

Bonus deal No. 2: Calling all Kindle Fire owners! Amazon is currently offering Angry Birds Star Wars Premium HD for free. This ad-free version is normally $2.99. And as an added bonus, you'll receive 20 Amazon Coins (worth 20 cents) you can apply to a future app purchase. Also temporarily free for Kindle: interactive whiteboard app Splashtop Whiteboard, normally $9.99. You get 20 Coins with that one, too.
