Our present isn't nearly as wireless as our past promised our future would be. (Oh, it does too make sense.)
For example, planning to mount a TV on the wall or a projector on the ceiling? Be prepared for a mess of wires to go with it, what with the cable box, Blu-ray player, game console, Apple TV, and other goodies you'll want to connect.
Ideally, you'd be able to wirelessly beam all your video sources to your video destination, with little to no lag and HD fidelity intact. And you can, with today's deal.
For a limited time, and while supplies last, Best Buy has the refurbished Rocketfish RF-WHD210 4-Port Wireless HD Kit for $59.99 shipped (plus sales tax in most states). It lists for $299.99, and usually sells new for $199.99.
As you've no doubt guessed from the name, the kit can wirelessly connect up to four HDMI sources to an HDTV or projector. It comes with a transmitter and a receiver, the latter equipped with a wall/ceiling mounting bracket, and two HDMI cables.
According to Rocketfish, the two have a range of up to 30 feet within the same room, and rely on a 60GHz transmitting frequency to prevent interference from other sources. The transmitter can auto-switch depending on whatever input is active, but there's also a remote for manually selecting your source.
Rocketfish promises virtually lag-free connectivity and full compatibility with both 1080p and 3D sources. Based on the smattering of reviews I've seen, the kit lives up to those promises.
Most wireless-video solutions cost an arm and a leg, like this one does most of the time. For $60 (plus tax) out the door, this is pretty darn attractive -- though do take note of the warranty: there doesn't appear to be one, only a 30-day return option. If you can live with that, this could be a great way to cut down cable clutter.
Bonus deal: Reader Bruce alerted me to another decor-saving Rocketfish deal: Best Buy has the Rocketboost Wireless HD Audio Starter Kit for $49.99 shipped (plus tax, natch). It's new, not refurbished, and it lists for $199.99. It sends wireless audio from your receiver or another source to your speakers.
Bonus deal No. 2: Speaking of music, Google Play is giving away 20 songs, no strings attached, from artists like Busta Rhymes, Dave Matthews, and The Rolling Stones. Many of the tracks are live recordings, which I generally don't dig, but you can't argue with the price. Rock on!
