Get a 5th-gen iPod Touch for $249 shipped

It's new, not refurbished, and you can get it in your choice of four colors. The really big surprise is who's selling it for that price.

A $299 iPod Touch (5th-gen) seems a little pricey, especially with the iPad Mini selling for just $30 more. But $249? That's more like it.
A $299 iPod Touch (5th-gen) seems a little pricey, especially with the iPad Mini selling for just $30 more. But $249? That's more like it. Apple

First it was an unusually cheap deal on MacBook Airs (since expired, alas). Now there's a solid savings to be had on the new iPod Touch.

And I mean new, not refurbished. For a limited time, you can get the 5th-gen iPod Touch (32GB) for $249 shipped. Just click on over to your local ShopRite.

Wait, what? ShopRite? The East Coast grocery-store chain? Oooookay.

I have no idea why ShopRite has the single best price on iPod Touches anywhere on the planet, but I'm not complaining. And I don't think it's a price mistake, as this deal has been live since at least yesterday.

In any case, you can get the iPod in your choice of blue, black, silver, or pink. It sells everywhere else for $299.

As you may recall, the 5th-gen Touch resembles the iPhone 5 in that it has the larger Retina screen. (CNET called it "an iPad for your pocket," though that description pre-dated the iPad Mini.)

Other specs include a 5-megapixel camera (which can shoot 1080p video), Apple's new Earpods, Siri, a dual-core A5 chip, and a seriously gorgeous design.

Yep, you guessed it: I'm a fan. I've always thought the iPod Touch was the ultimate gizmo for kids too young for a phone, and the 5th-gen model is clearly the best one yet. At $249, it's still not what I would call cheap, but it's definitely more attractive than $299.

I'm not sure how long this deal will last, so if you want to save 50 bucks on a Touch, act fast.

Bonus deal: When it comes to shooting video, there are times when your smartphone (or iPod Touch) just won't do. Times when you need to zoom in on the action, for example. Today only, and while supplies last, Sellout.Woot has the refurbished JVC Everio GZ-HM40BUS 1080p digital camcorder for $79.99, plus $5 for shipping. Specs include a 40x optical zoom(!) and 2.7-inch LCD (non-touch, alas). Awfully hard to beat at that price.
