Gateway touts new server, storage devices
The computer maker has refreshed its server and storage offerings for business and government sectors.
The 9715 is a rack-mounted 4-way server for database applications and storage consolidation, the company said. The server provides the capacity for four Xeon MP processors with up to 8MB cache and PCI Express architecture. It can be expanded to 32GB of system memory and a capacity of up to 3 terabytes of internal SCSI storage.
The server supports Windows server software, Novell's Netware 6.5, Red Hat Linux Enterprise 3.0 and 3.0 EM64T, and SuSe Linux Enterprise 9.0 and 9.0 EM64T, the company said. The server is available for prices beginning at $3,999, Gateway said.
The Gateway products follow similar releases made by devices makers Hewlett-Packard and IBM.
Gateway also announced two new storage servers, the 9315 and 9415, building on the architecture of its 9315 and 9415 servers. They include new network attached storage features such as print server, backup appliance and the ability to attach external storage.
Both the products support 64-bit Xeon processors and 800MHz FSB, while the 9315 supports EM64T as well. The 9315 also includes three internal SATA hard drives with hardware RAID 5 support, besides PCI-X and PCIe support. The 9415 server integrates three hot-swap SCSI drive bays with RAID 5 capability and hot-swap power supplies. It also provides up to 900GB of raw internal storage. Both the servers use Microsoft Windows Storage Server 2003 software.
The 9315 server is priced at $2,197, while the 9415 is priced at $2,098, the company said.
