Update: Apple will honor all G4 orders; even from resellers Just when you thought it was safe to put this matter to rest...

After first canceling all standing G4 orders at the Apple Store, Apple sent out a letter of apology on Friday, apparently rescinding the cancellation (see items in Power Mac G4 MacFixIt Report).

But then, late in the day, a MacWEEK article was posted that referred to further statements by an Apple spokesperson. These statements at least partially contradicted the letter of apology: "The Apple Store message was wrong...production demands necessitated the cancellation of almost all orders for now-unavailable configurations. Similarly, Apple said news reports Friday from the Associated Press and other outlets stating that Apple had rescinded the G4 price hike were incorrect."

Following this, we received a few emails suggesting that this further statement was in fact incorrect and that the "apology letter" was still valid.

No rescinding in the UK? In either case, Michael Curtis notes that the policy reversal does not extend across the Atlantic: "I work for an Apple dealer in London and, as of close of day on Friday, it would seem the policy on old orders has only been changed in the U.S. We could get no information out of Apple regarding if the change would affect the U.K. We certainly weren't phoned to say reinstate your old orders."

Update: Apple honors all orders Great news! Apple makes it official. It will honor all orders at the original prices. A press release dated October 18 states:

Apple today announced it will honor all orders for its Power Macintosh G4 computers placed before Wednesday, October 13, at the originally quoted prices, including those placed with the Company's resellers which were accompanied by a purchase order, or a cash or credit card deposit.
