Front Row 1.2.1 (#2): Problems accessing movie trailers; Problems launching

Problems accessing movie trailers Users continue to report issues accessing the Apple movie trailers server.

For some users the issue was resolved with Front Row 1.2.1, but it persists for others.

In-house, we've yet to attain a single successful connection to the movie trailers server, constantly receiving the message "Movie Trailers server not responding" when attempting to access the feature.

Problems launching Some users report problems launching Front Row after applying the version 1.2.1 update.

One reader writes:

"I was installing Front Row -- the latest Update (1.2.1) -- via the usual Software Update routines provided by the OS. After updating, Front Row is not longer starting - neither by use of the IR device nor by direct launch.

"Re-applying the update, launching the updated iTunes, the usual processes of maintenance, restarting, HD-repairing etc. did not relieve the problem.

"Hardware: iMac G5 iSight (late 2005) with regularly installed Front Row. Software: 10.4.5, all patches, iTunes 6.0.4 (3). Ilife 5(!), which was pre-installed."

One potential fix for this issue is to make sure that all of your iLife applications launch properly (this includes iPhoto, iMovie and iTunes). In some cases, if one or more of these applications does not launch, or the user license agreement (which occurs on first launch or after some updates) has not been agreed to, Front Row will exhibit issues launching.

In other cases, the problem is caused by a hardware issue that requires service by an Apple-authorized technician.

Try creating a new user account, and see if there are any "Remote" options in the Security pane of System Preferences. Also, try opening Apple's System Profiler (located in Applications/Utilities) and look under the USB section for "USB Bus > IR Receiver."

If neither of these items appears, you may have a hardware issue.
