Sherlock 2 bug? A MacFixIt Forums thread describes a bug in Sherlock 2. Robert Shawley, the originator of the thread, adds: "A work-around is to put Sherlock from 8.6 into your Apple Menu Items folder and use it instead. In fact Command-F will then bring up Sherlock instead of Sherlock 2 even if both reside in the Apple Menu Items folder.

Remote Access in Mac OS 9: crashes and dropped connections An initial posting in a MacFixIt Forums thread states: " I just upgraded my PowerBook G3 '99 to Mac OS 9 and since then the speaker is always off while I'm dialing my ISP. The worst is that every time I disconnect, the computer crashes without any error appearing at all." Other postings confirm this crashing problem as does another thread. A third thread describes an increased frequency of dropped connections related to Remote Access in Mac OS 9. (Thanks, Tom Hom.)

Update: Brett Wickens advises to check if the AppleTalk control panel is set to to "Infrared Port" instead of it's usual "Ethernet" or "Remote Only" settings. This turned out to be the cause of the disconnects he was getting.
