Will not remember stored passwords Users continue to report an issue where previously stored passwords are either not remembered (stored) or do not automatically populate designated forms/fields after applying the Firefox 2.0.0.2 update.

Potential fixes

Make sure "remember passwords" preference is turned on The first thing to do if you are having this issue is to make sure that the preference to "Remember passwords for sites" is checked in the "Security" pane of Firefox's preferences (accessible by going to the "Firefox" menu, selecting "Preferences," then clicking on the "Security" tab).

Make sure "remember sign ons" values are on Follow these steps to make sure that inline autocomplete is turned on:

  1. Type about:config in the URL bar
  2. In the filter field type fill
  3. Look for the item marked browser.urlbar.autoFIll and make sure its value is set to "True"
  4. In the filter field type signon
  5. Look for the items marked signon.rememberSignons and signon.prefillForms and make sure their values are set to "True."

Modify signons2.txt file As suggested by poster Rybo85 in the MozillaZine support forums, some users can solve this issue by modifying the signons2.txt file where stored login/password information for Firefox is stored. Here are the instructions, adapted for Mac OS X:

  1. Quit Firefox
  2. Navigate to ~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles
  3. Open your current profile folder (e.g. glhb5xay.default)
  4. Open the file signons2.txt in your favorite text editor
  5. Modify each URL entry so that the URL is appended both at the beginning and end of each username/password entry. In other words, change the entries from this:
    • email
    • *password

    to this:
    • email
    • *password
    • http://www.nameofsite.com
  6. Re-launch Firefox and check for persistence of the issue

Revert to an earlier version of Firefox Older versions of Firefox, including 2.0.0.1, are available from: http://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/. If you are severely affected by the password remembrance issues after updating and wish to downgrade, simply download the older release then drag Firefox 2.0.0.2 to the Trash. Next, drag the (newly downloaded) older release to the /Applications folder.
