Erratic PowerBook trackpad behavior: Button not working, jumpy behavior from PowerBook G4 17" 1.67 GHz models

CNET staff

We've previously covered erratic trackpad behavior for several different Apple portable models. In particular, the new 2005 PowerBook G4 models (with trackpads no longer manufactured by Synaptics) appear to exhibit slower movement of the cursor than previous generations.

One model of 2005 PowerBook G4, however, has emerged as the most susceptible to these issues based on a number of reader reports: The 1.67 GHz PowerBook G4 17".

A number of readers have noted not only slow and sometimes jumpy behavior from the trackpad surface, but also problems with the system's ability to recognize clicks on the trackpad button that occur on up to half of the attempted clicks.
