Epson's odd reply on 900N over an Ethernet network

Peter Vollmer has received several replies from Epson tech support stating that the Epson OS X driver for the 900 will not permit connecting the 900N over an Ethernet network because it does not include an Ethernet driver. Here's a quote: "The Epson Stylus Color 900N will work in OS X if the Stylus Color 900 OS X driver and a USB cable is used. The SC900N cannot be connected in OS X through the Ethernet connection."

After being told that, in fact, the 900N software does work over an Ethernet connection (as we can attest ourselves!), Epson replied: "What we were saying is Epson cannot guarantee the printer will work with an Ethernet connection as the driver was intended for the Epson Stylus Color 900 with the USB connection." This reply seems a bit bizarre. How can a driver intended to work only with USB have an "unintended" ability to work with Ethernet? In any case, intended or not, it works.
