Entourage v. X 2GB limit?

Barry Cotter discovered that there is a 2GB limit to the mail database for Entourage under OS X. He adds:

"Although OS X does not impose this limit, Entourage does. It carries over from earlier versions of Outlook and Entourage. Microsoft Tech Support confirmed that this is an undocumented feature of the program that didn't get fixed with the port to OS X.

My problem is that, under OS 9, you were at least give the opportunity to discard mail and enclosures to get the database size down. Under OS X you appear to have no such chance. Any idea on how get my >2GB mail database to open?"

Update: One possibility that may help: Try compacting the database on launch, by holding down the Option key and selecting to rebuild the database.
