Communicator 4.7 Shop button and Mercutio MDEF issues: Dagley replies

Shop button Regarding reader-suggested solutions for disabling the new Shop button in Netscape Communicator 4.7, as posted last time, Netscape's Steve Dagley offers a warning:

Editing the TEXT resources in Communicator can be a risky proposition. While the "macprefs" TEXT resource is under 32K the "allprefs" resource is not. Editing it in ResEdit will result in the text being truncated resulting in missing/bogus prefs. I'll mention to the 4.x folks that the 4.7 release notes need to be clearer on the Mac version of disabling the button.

Mercutio MDEF Regarding the "controversy" as to whether or not the current Mercutio MDEF is compatible with Communicator (see the MacFixIt Extra on Communicator 4.7), Steve Dagley responds:

The currently released Mercutio MDEF, while Appearance compatible, does not support the indented menu item behavior Communicator 4.x uses in some mail/news menus. We have a version that does both but it's a beta we received last year. Until this capability is added to a releaseable version of Mercutio we will not be updating the version used in Communicator 4.x.
